Steamboat Bill

Steamboat Bill

Kate battersby’s 2010 collection: Steamboat Bill, takes its inspiration from the silent film featuring Buster Keaton. The films title references the Arthur Collins song of the same name – most memorably whistled by Mickey Mouse in his first onscreen appearance. Set on the river banks of the Mississippi, the film, charts a young mans journey as a steam boat captain, following in the steps of his father and falling in love with the daughter of his business rival. The collection captures the spirit of Keatons deadpan delivery, dark humour and off-kilter comedy. The designs reveal an equally disarming cast of characters: striped, knotted and stitched. Anchors aweigh!
